Innovation and Identity in Web 2.0 Environments: Perspectives and Experiences of Vietnamese University Teachers and Learners of English
Ms Pham investigated innovation and identity in Web 2.0 in relation to Vietnamese university teachers and learners of English across different settings. This study followed from her on-going endeavours to encourage innovation in teaching and learning English using Web 2.0 in her university in Vietnam. She explored how the participants negotiated their identities in an initial experience of innovation, in which they were creating and implementing innovative projects as learners. She then followed the participants in an extended experience of innovation, in which they switched their roles to teachers and mentors applying what they had learnt to their own working contexts. Her study also explored how the creation and implementation of innovation in a classroom institutional context induced negotiations of classroom identities. Key findings include the mutually constitutive relationship between innovation and identity, the need for critical adaptive learning in continuing innovation, and the role of context in creating and implementing innovation.
