Current practice of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and human resource management
Having said that business cannot prosper in societies that fail, I have developed personal interests and passion for understanding how businesses can contribute to society, especially with the social and environmental challenges that we are facing nowadays. Although Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in practice and theory, has grown immensely in the last six decades, in many developing countries, there has been a common but pragmatic opinion that CSR is only associated with philanthropy or charity and is therefore considered as a tool to polish the company’s image and add to its prestige. In Vietnam, previous research on CSR is not yet extensive and its status is still at a premature stage. But, it is worth noting that Vietnam is moving towards greater international economic integration in which many Vietnamese firms are required to improve their CSR practices. Taking these points into consideration, the aim of my study is to shed light on current practice of CSR and to represent an initial examination of the relationship between CSR and human resource management (HRM). As CSR is a multi-disciplinary subject, I hope to further broaden and improve my knowledge in this promising area by pursuing into PhD level.
I am a PhD student in the School of Management. I hold a Bachelor degree in Business, majoring in Finance and Accounting from University of Technology Sydney and a MBA in Finance from University of Stirling. Prior to my PhD studies, I worked as a lecturer at Hanoi Architecture University and National Economics University, Vietnam. I chose Massey because my research interest is aligned with the School’s research themes and expertise. I believe with good reputation of excellence in teaching and research, and being recognized internationally, I could achieve my research objectives successfully by attending the PhD at Massey University.
