Media studies

We live in a century defined by our relationships to media and technology. Discover how the daily presence of the media shapes our lives and thoughts.

Media Studies is an exciting and challenging discipline which will prepare you for future challenges in an information-rich society. The subject explores modes of media which include film, social media, television, popular music, and smartphones, while exploring how issues such as gender, race, identity, and politics are impacted by media and processes of mediation.

Media Studies seeks to analyse and understand the production, consumption, and content of the media, using an interdisciplinary approach drawing upon linguistics, textual analysis, cultural studies, aesthetics, politics, history and ideologies. We also consider the media’s codes, conventions and production techniques, bringing together a unique and innovative programme which blends theory with creative practice. The skills you develop throughout your study are versatile and highly sought after in many careers, with digital literacy becoming increasingly important across all sectors.
