Diane has a background in secondary and primary education with Principal leadership experience in a large urban primary school in Wellington. Her initial teaching was in the Arts, especially Music, and also the teaching of Mathematics. From 1991-1996 Diane was Mathematics Adviser and Manager of Contracts for Wellington College of Education. She has worked extensively in the areas of Mathematics, Strategic Planning and Leadership including Principal appraisals.
Diane has facilitated professional learning for a wide range of clients. This includes working overseas for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Education, especially in Pacific Island countries. For three years, she served on the New Zealand Teachers Council as part of the Professional Committee and on the Disciplinary Tribunal. For 12 years, Diane played an active role on the NZEI Executive. With her interest in Mathematics and curriculum development, she was invited to participate in an advisory capacity in the development of the New Zealand Curriculum, the Numeracy Project and the Best Evidence Synthesis Iterations.
