Dr Barbara Postema PhD, MA

Barbara Postema is a Senior Lecturer in the School of English and Media Studies, where she teaches literary studies and popular fiction. Her main areas of research are comics form, theory, and history, narrative theory, genre, and popular culture. She has contributed work on comics to Image and Narrative, the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, and the International Journal of Comic Art, as well as collections such as The Routledge Companion to Comics and Graphic Novels, and The Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel. In 2018, a Brazilian publisher put out a Portuguese translation of her 2013 monograph Narrative Structure in Comics. Dr Postema is currently working on a project on wordless comics, under the title Telling Stories without Words: Visual Communication in Silent Comics.
