The Career and Employability Service helps Massey students and graduates to make informed and independent career decisions, enhance their employability and transition from study to work.  We do this in partnership with employers, professional bodies, alumni and, crucially, Massey staff.

We have a presence on each campus and are keen to work with you.  Some of the ways in which we could do so are outlined here but please contact the Careers Consultant on your campus to discuss this further.

How we enhance the employability of Massey students and graduates (77 KB)

We work with students at any stage in their studies, and with prospective students and recent graduates.  Our services are both individual and group-work based and encompass help with the following:

  • Identifying and exploring career options
  • Researching roles, sectors and employers
  • The nature of the NZ labour market
  • Finding work of any type
  • Devising a job search strategy
  • Developing personal and professional skills
  • CV and cover letter development
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Preparing for psychometric tests and assessment centres
  • Implications of changing or leaving a course of study
  • Exploring and applying for further study
  • Negotiating with employers
  • Issues to consider in career choice
  • Choosing between job offers

In all of the above, we aim to help students to prepare for the world of work by enhancing their employability.  We do so by:

  • Providing careers education, information and guidance to students though workshops, seminars and related group-based activities and on a 1:1 basis through booked appointments.
  • Assisting students to find and secure work experience, voluntary work and graduate employment.  A wide range of employers publicise job opportunities (in NZ and abroad through our on-line portal Massey CareerHub and we offer advice on other ways of finding work and on how students might reflect on the skills developed through this experience.

We can help you and your students by providing

  • Discipline-specific workshops and seminars on career-related topics that include career choice, CV development, interview preparation, employability skills development and job search.
  • Advice on how students might make the most of their time at Massey to develop the skills, attributes and experience that employers seek and to build a network of useful contacts.
  • Information on graduate destinations and the NZ labour market
  • Links to organisations that provide employment opportunities to students and graduates
  • Details of career-related events that we are running or hosting, including seminars, workshops, career and voluntary work expos and employer presentations.
  • Advertising part-time work or placements in departments to students.

You can help us and your students by

  • Maintaining regular contact with us
  • Encouraging students to engage in career-related and skill development activities including attendance at relevant employer presentations and career expos
  • Promoting to students the use of our website and our on-line vacancy and events portal Massey CareerHub
  • Encouraging your department to nominate a staff member who could act as a liaison with us and to explore ways in which a careers input could be built into your academic programmes
  • Assisting in the provision of information on career options relevant to the disciplines that you and your colleagues teach
  • Networking with employers who are hosting recruitment presentations or attending career expos on campus. Details of these can be accessed through the 'events' tab on Massey CareerHub.
